Configuring the Customer Portal Experience
Customer Portal configuration determines how customers interact with the Helpdesk self-service experience.
Plan the experience
Before changing portal settings, identify the tasks customers need to perform.
Typical goals include submitting tickets, reviewing requests, reading help content, and finding contact options.
Branding and navigation
Where supported, configure names, labels, navigation, and visual settings so customers can understand where they are and how to get help.
Knowledge content
Make sure customer-facing Knowledge Base categories contain accurate and useful articles.
An empty or outdated portal can create more support requests instead of reducing them.
Ticket submission
Review the information requested on ticket forms. Ask for fields that genuinely help support the request and avoid unnecessary complexity.
Access
Validate anonymous and authenticated behavior separately.
Testing
After configuration changes, test the portal from a real customer perspective on desktop and mobile.
Confirm ticket submission, navigation, Knowledge Base access, and protected-data boundaries before treating the change as complete.
