How Incoming Email Creates Tickets
How Incoming Email Creates Tickets
Incoming support email can be converted into Helpdesk tickets so agents can manage requests through the normal ticket lifecycle.
New conversations
When a customer sends a message that does not belong to an existing ticket conversation, the Helpdesk may create a new ticket.
The sender can become or be matched to the requester according to the configured contact logic.
Ticket fields
Information derived from the message or channel may influence fields such as requester, subject, source, team assignment, or other configured values.
Automation
After ticket creation, normal automation and assignment behavior may process the ticket.
Duplicate prevention
Message threading and ticket identifiers help the Helpdesk distinguish a reply to an existing request from a genuinely new conversation.
Good practices
Do not change email parsing or threading behavior without controlled testing. Incorrect configuration can create duplicate tickets or attach replies to the wrong service record.
