Understanding Role-Based Access
Understanding Role-Based Access
Role-based access control helps the Helpdesk assign permissions consistently instead of configuring every user independently.
How role-based access works
A role groups permissions that belong to a particular responsibility.
Users assigned to that role receive the corresponding access according to the Helpdesk security model.
Why roles are useful
Roles make access easier to review, maintain, and audit.
For example, operational agents, supervisors, finance users, and administrators may need different capabilities.
Least privilege
A role should contain only the permissions required for its purpose.
Avoid adding broad administrative access simply because one user temporarily needs a specific action.
Changes to roles
Changing a role can affect multiple users at once.
Review the impact carefully before saving permission changes.
Good practices
Use clear role names, document their purpose, and periodically review role assignments and permissions to identify unnecessary access.
