Troubleshooting
Collecting Information for Support
Collecting Information for Support
Collect useful information before escalating a Helpdesk problem so the support or engineering team can investigate efficiently.
Describe the problem
Include:
- what you were trying to do
- what you expected
- what happened instead
- when it occurred
- whether it can be reproduced
Identify the context
Provide safe identifiers such as:
- module
- ticket or record ID
- tenant
- affected user or role
- browser or device
- relevant timestamp
Capture evidence
Include screenshots, HTTP status, safe error messages, or logs when appropriate.
Protect sensitive data
Do not include passwords, API keys, tokens, private encryption material, or unnecessary customer information.
Record recent changes
Mention configuration or deployment changes that occurred shortly before the problem.
Good practices
Provide enough evidence to reproduce the issue without overwhelming the investigation with unrelated logs or sensitive information.
