Troubleshooting Overview
Troubleshooting is the process of identifying the real cause of a Helpdesk problem before making corrective changes.
Start with the symptom
Record what the user expected, what actually happened, and when the problem began.
Identify the scope
Determine whether the issue affects:
- one user
- one team
- one tenant
- one module
- one browser or device
- all users
- an external integration
Reproduce the problem
Use a controlled test when possible.
Collect evidence
Review safe application errors, HTTP responses, logs, configuration, and database state as appropriate.
Change one thing at a time
Multiple simultaneous changes make it difficult to identify the actual fix.
Verify the result
After remediation, repeat the original failing scenario and relevant regression tests.
Good practices
Do not treat a hidden symptom as a solved problem. Confirm the underlying cause and preserve enough evidence to understand the incident later.
