Ticket Volume and Backlog Analysis
Ticket Volume and Backlog Analysis
Ticket volume and backlog analysis help teams understand how much work enters the Helpdesk and how much remains unresolved.
Ticket volume
Ticket volume measures the number of tickets created or otherwise included during a selected period according to the metric definition.
Backlog
Backlog represents unresolved or active work remaining at a point in time or under the selected reporting conditions.
Why both matter
High volume does not necessarily mean a problem if the team is resolving work at a similar rate.
A growing backlog can indicate that incoming demand is exceeding available capacity or that tickets are taking longer to complete.
Segment the data
Review volume and backlog by relevant dimensions such as priority, team, status, source, or other supported fields.
Good practices
Compare trends over consistent periods. Investigate sudden changes rather than assuming they are caused by staffing or customer demand without supporting evidence.
